In the U.S., an elderly gay fathered her partner to pay less tax

An elderly gay from the U.S. state of Pennsylvania decided to adopt their partner to pay less in taxes, according to ABC News.

Gregory, who is now 73 for eight years older than his adoptive father, John, who is now 65 years old. Men who have lived together for 45 years, have been through the adoption process to one of them in the event of the death of another can inherit another house without paying 15% tax.
An elderly couple lives in a state where same-sex marriages are prohibited. To avoid further legal difficulties that one of them will face after the death of another, older people have decided to change the status of their relationship. And one of them was another adoptive father, reports ABC News.

"If we just continue to live together as roommates, and Gregory wants to bequeath me his savings, property or any property yet, I will have to pay 15 percent tax - said John. - Procedure for adoption will reduce the tax to 4%. And it's a big difference. "

Gregory could not adopt their partner on the rights of older: the fact that John's father was still alive, he is now 95 years old.

Therefore, the role of the adopter had to speak to John.

In court, the men were warned that to refuse adoption in the future will not work, so even if the state allowed same-sex marriages, the men will not be able to get married.

According to John, he himself is ridiculous that we had to adopt a person who was eight years older than him.

"Gregory was still in college athlete. Today, he enjoys playing golf, and I'll probably test for blueberry pie. So the sooner he fits the role of the father than I," - he jokes.

Recall, in spite of the fact that the U.S. Supreme Court has equated same-sex unions to normal, they are not recognized at the federal level. And in some states they do not sign, although they admit. However, there is a total of more than 30 states where same-sex couples is not possible to legally protect your family. This was stated by attorney Jason Wu of the organization GLAD, which protects the rights of sexual minorities.

"The example of John and Gregory - is that through which, unfortunately, have to go through so many pairs. They are forced to do - come up with some ways to protect each other's rights when it will go on public whatsoever medical decisions or inheritance issues, "- said Jason Wu.

According to the lawyer, he has been known for several cases in which same-sex couples have resorted to the adoption process.
