In the plasmasphere of the Earth for the first time caught "wind"

French astronomers have found in the Earth's magnetosphere constant motion of the particles, which carries material from the inside of the outer magnetosphere.

The interior of the Earth's magnetosphere is the plasma. Plasmasphere state determines the behavior of the radiation belts in the magnetosphere of the Earth, saturated with charged particles, it is extremely hazardous to spacecraft and astronauts. In addition, it slows down the passage of signals from the GPS-satellites.

As the head of a group of scientists Janis Danduras of the Research Institute of Astrophysics and Planetology in Toulouse, the study of processes in the plasmasphere will understand the physical mechanisms of some pretty dangerous space weather phenomena.

After analyzing satellite data Cluster, scientists have found stable motion of the particles of the plasmasphere at over 1.3 kilometers per second. Scientists estimate that plazmosferny "wind" blows in the outer part of the magnetosphere plasma about a kilogram per second.

Scientists believe that this movement of particles can exist on other planets. It takes away the substance of the atmosphere into space and thus affects the suitability of these planets for life.
